Default Is GMA Grading Worth Anything?

Said I wouldn't but broke down and bought my first Puig card. Got it for a very good deal so couldn't pass it up. Is this grading company worth the plastic or should I just crack it?

The GMA encased card by reputation unfortunately is no better than having a screw down case and a tube of super glue as far as most of the hobby is concerned from what I hear, and the 10 Gem Mint grade could just as well be an "11" or a "Super Duper Minty Mint" grade since no serious collector would hold any value to their grading assignment nor clout as an authenticator. You're best off getting the card graded by the industry standard companies of PSA or BGS to answer your "worth anything" question. Otherwise if you like the card and don't plan on selling it, keep it in the case ('tho I don't know how good the GMA cases are in terms of archival quality for preservation).

If I bought that card, I would crack it. I feel like the average buyer would do the same. It's just an ugly case and it doesn't add any value.

Crack it yourself.

Have you cracked a gma case before? I've opened a few psa cases and didn't really like the card any better after I got it out of the slab. Don't know much about the Puig market, but I'm guessing that is an expensive card. If the reward outweighs the risk in your mind, bust it out.

Personally I would pay a lot less for it in a GMA case. I certainly wouldn't keep it in the case so I would have to pay less for the risk of damaging the card when I cracked the case.

Never cracked one. Paid 150.00 which I thought was pretty cheap. Guess I'll prolly leave it in.

$150 is a great price. GMA costs $2 and they have a "Grade Your Own" program that lets you tell them what the grade is.

That's terrible if it is true.

Based on recent ebay sales, you got one hell of a deal. I forget how I found the video instructions for cracking a psa case(probably youtube), but you can always search around to see if they are hard to break open. Personally I wouldnt touch it right now.

Yeah, I think I'll leave it for now. Had no intention of buying one, but when the guy accepted my offer I was stuck but I didn't really mind.

Any chance the card is trimmed? I have heard that can be an issue with GMAs, and I wonder if it's possible to tell based on the size of the card relative to the case.

If you're looking to flip it, then crack it for sure. Raw is worth more than it slabbed in that fugly thing.

If it's a PC Card, then sit tight. You can always crack and grade it with BGS later if you want.

Yeah, I never flip. I'll just squat for a while.

Wow! You got a great deal on that card! If that is for your PC I would just keep it in the case to protect it. Very nice pick up.

Thanks. No reason to take it out while it's in the pc I guess. I'm happy with it. The Inception is my favorite of the Puig cards to be released yet. The case does look cheap, but at 2.00 a card, it makes me wonder just how bad BGS is fleecing people with their arbitrary grading.
